Weekly Boost Beatitudes

WeeklyBoost from GoKids! Children’s Ministries-CATG

Welcome Parents and Guardians

Important announcement: No Wednesday night activites at the West Campus for kids on February 13, due to no school. CATG middle/high schoolyouth  will be hosting a Valentine’s Day North Campus kids outreach that night. If you are interested in helping with that, please contact me or the youth leaders.

Last Night at KIDMO (6:30-7:30) http://www.kidmo.com, we rounded out  our “BEEFESIANS” series and  with  Be Strong in the Full armor of God. I encourage you to go over your child’s MAP book with him/her and encourage your child to daily put on the full armor of God. We had a lot of healing prayers for healing the last 2 Wednesdays, a prayer for salvation, and prayers for peace within families.  I am guessing your child will continue that with you at home.   We also frosted Valentine’s cookies. Perhaps some of you received one as a gift of love. Others, well, your child probably couldn’t resist the tempatation to eat it and that was fine, too.

The Weekly Boost will  be posted here every Tuesday or Thursday!  I hope you enjoy other nuggets for encouraging spiritual transformation in your kids.  We’ve updated our children’s link on the Church at the Gate website. Be sure to look at the latest February calendar and links.

This past weekend, we learned about  the Beatitudes  “Attitudes”  (Matthew 5:1-12).

“Blessed are those who mourn.” Jesus said. “Blessed are those who are persecuted.”  His words must have been so shocking yet so refreshing: “Be meek.  Be humble.  Be pure.  Show mercy. ” Jesus turned the world upside down in the famous teaching that’s often called the Beatitudes.  He showed the world that God cares about our hearts more than our abilities.  Jesus challenged everything most people feel is important and encouraged them to go after and hold onto the things that God feels are important.

Some of the  classes made “Attitude flags” on which  they listed the good attitudes/actions that please God. The preschoolers colored in hearts with wipe off markers to show that they become  “dirty” when we sin or have a bad attitude or action, but then wiped  off the “dirt” to show that  our hearts are clean again when we  ask Jesus for forgiveness.  The older kids also went through each Beatitude and talked about how our good actions also have rewards (vs. 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”).

We encourage you to talk to your children more about the Beatitudes. Pastor Steve Hickey has an amazing teaching series on the Beatitude and the entire Sermon on the Mount. If you have missed any part of it, go to the podcast link at www.churchatthegate.com.  Or, you can order/pick up copies of the sermon on CD at the church.

I already have  a few signed  up for the Life Group I am offering. Due to the fact that the building will not be open until the end of April, place and time are still pending. There is a life group called “Righteous Kids” offered by my daughter, Chloe and a few of her friends who attended the Onething conference in December at IHOP. Their goal is to stir up in their friends what God’s is stirring inside of them, including a desire “to be fascinated with Jesus”, prayer, worship, as well as  fun and games with each other. I will supervise this this group at  my home. This life group is a good launch for the one I will be starting later in the Spring, so if you want to sign your child up for this one, I would encourage you to sign up during life group rally weekend or respond to me via blog or email or phone .

     Driving Home the Point

Take a night this week to have some teaching fun with your family with one of the following activities related to this week’s Bible lesson:

    · Help your child learn to tell the truth in a fun way. (Preschoolers)
After dinner each night, set out markers or crayons and a sheet of paper.  Sit down with your child and individually draw pictures of something true that happened during the day.  After the drawings are complete, take turns sharing the truth and listening to each other.  At the end of the week, help your child staple the truthful stories together to create a book.  Remind your child that God is pleased with our actions when we tell the truth.

    OR

    • Attitude Adjustment: Designate an area or room in your house where people can go to get an attitude adjustment.  Consider placing a Bible opened to Matthew 5:1-12 in the area.  Family members will agree to go to that spot whenever they feel they need an attitude adjustment.  Each person can come out of the area after he or she has talked to God about the issue and feels ready to return. Also, agree with your family to use Philippians 4:8 as a filter for everything you watch,  listen to, or read.  For example, as you’re watching TV, ask, “Is this program true, pure, and lovely? According to Philippians 4:8, do you think we should watch it? Why or why not?

This Week’s Bible Memory and Weekly Challenge

(Be sure to sign your child’s Bible Memory book when completed.)

Looking ahead: for week of 02/10

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Weekly Challenge for Children and Parents
In your child’s memory book, there is a journal page. Please look at the introduction to  the journal and then encourage you child to draw or write the things that God says to him/her or things that he/she wants to say to God.

    • Commit to having a Beatitude Attitude when you’re faced with a difficult situation

    OR

    • Be on the lookout for Beatitude attitudes in your family this week.  Compliment/affirm your family members each time you see him or her behaving with a Beatitude Attitude. For example, if one sibling tries to make peace instead of argue, they are acting as a peacemaker. At the end of the week, have a Beatitude party to celebrate the way Jesus taught.

Store is planned for Mid-March, so if your child is behind in their verse memory book, encourage him or her to work on their verse memorization weekly, reminding them that having the Word in their heart is an eternal blessing, but in the short-term, they get points to spend at the store. **Your children earns points by attending Go Kids!, memorizing scripture and completing their weekly challenges in their Go Kids! Bible Memory Books, and by bringing their Bible and/or friends to church.)
